About Pureto Galera and the diving

If your ideal dive destination is small, peaceful and in an idyllic setting, lively Puerto Galera is unlikely to be your first choice. This small area at the top of East Mindoro gets the lion’s share of dive tourism in The Philippines and has a reputation for being a party destination.  Not surprising that during Filipino holidays the area gets the reputation of Puerto Gay-lera !!

Yet Puerto Galera is so much more than that.  While the main beaches may be bustling not far away the small resort centers remain picturesque and our choice of luxury resort will ensure peace and tranquility for those who prefer it.

It's a fact that many dive groups and individuals come back to dive here time and time again - and for good reason.  The region has some of the highest biodiversity in all South East Asia combined with a variety of topography. There is a mixture of coral-clad reef slopes and sandy bays that reveal masses of curious critters. Some people like to focus on the incredible macro life yet the bays are edged by deep-water reefs that are visited by larger species. There is also a number of wrecks. Not huge but home to a teeming marine life.

Our dive partner for this trip is Action Divers .  All dive boats are local "bankas", boats with two outriggers, which provide great stability. The bancas can handle 10 - 12 divers if the weather is calm or if the sea is choppy, two boats will be used.

All dive sites (more than 25) in the Puerto Galera area are only a 5 - 20 minute boat ride away from Action Divers, which allows great flexibility when planning dives plus a return to Action Divers after each dive. Dives are normally scheduled at 9 am, 12 noon and 3 pm.

About Our Verde Island Day Trip
Maximum depth: 42m   Skill level: Advanced & above
A great day out! A rocky pinnacle 400m off Verde island is the start of this dive site. Steep sloping reefs and coral encrusted walls are the homes for nudibranches, scorpion fish, banded sea snakes and a multitude of reef fish.

At the corner of the wall, there is a great chance of seeing schools of Jacks, Trevallies and Batfish. Around the corner volcanic bubbles escape through the corals.
