This trip will take you to one of the oldest rain forests in Thailand and it is only a few hours away from Koh Samui by car and ferry. On the way there is many interesting places to visit which most tourist will never see.

At the end of the tour it is possible to be dropped off at Surat Thai airport where flights to Bangkok are about half the Samui-Bangkok price. Another option is to connect with regular bus services to Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi or even Malaysia. Return to Samui is of course included in the price.

1st Stop > Surat Thani Town & River

Crossing from Samui, the local ferry takes 1.5 hours and provides fantastic views of the mainland as well as the Ang Thong Marine Park. One hour drive from the ferry terminal on the mainland you reach the town of Surat Thani, capital of the province (of the same name), and the largest province in Southern Thailand.

Here you can take a ride on a traditional long tail boat to discover beautiful scenery of lush mangrove forests and a way of life almost lost in modern Thailand. Local people live and work by the river and the network of canals provides the only means of transportation.

Surat Thani town has a large fresh food market where you can find an amazing range of fruits and vegetables perhaps some that you have never seen or tasted before.

2nd Stop > Khao Sok National Park

Approx. 1.5 hours from Surat Thani town is the Khao Sok National Park, one of the oldest evergreen rain forests in the world.  Huge limestone mountains shooting straight up in the air, deep valleys, exciting caves, wild animals and much more.

The Park covers an area of about 645 square km. It is one of Thailand's best preserved habitats for tropical vegetation and wildlife, with evergreen virgin jungle, waterfalls, sparkling clear rivers and streams, limestone cliffs, and many kinds of protected wildlife including monkeys and wild gaur. The park is home to thousands of species of birds, animals, insects, reptiles and plant life.

Overnight a unique opportunity to sleep in a tree house. En-suite rooms built in the trees with electric fan and mosquito nets. Fall asleep to the sound of nature all around.

day 2 > Rachaprapha Dam

Half hour drive from Khao Sok is Rachaprapha Dam or Chiew Lan Lake. This huge artificial lake has two dam walls 90m and 700m long. The lake is 20 km long and has 7 valleys with the deepest point reaching 130m.

The lake is completely surrounded with steep and thickly wooded limestone rocks similar to Guillin in China. Take a long tail boat tour around the lake and stop at a floating restaurant for refreshments. Time to relax, enjoy the tasty Thai food and the idyllic scenery & cool off in the lake.

Leave the lake midday and head back to Surat Thani and the Samui ferry.
